Startup Boot Camp WCMC

On November 14th, CCTEC held the second of its annual Boot Camp events at the Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. Budding entrepreneurs learned from experienced panelists during several interactive discussions. The day featured three panels in the areas of diagnosis/prognosis, biomedical devices, and therapeutics. Panels included entrepreneurs, investors, legal/regulatory representatives, and faculty from several Cornell startups. CCTEC staff members acted as moderators for each panel. The discussions were very interactive and audience members had the chance to ask questions.

Dr. Kathleen Denis, Associate Vice President, Office of Technology Transfer, The Rockefeller University, presented as the keynote lunch speaker. Dr. Denis explained how important a role university startups play in helping to feed the local economy. The Rockefeller University has launched eighteen startups in the past twenty years, many have succeeded and some have not, but valuable lessons were learned through each experience. Denis gave attendees sound advice and examples of “classic deal breakers” when starting a technology company.

After a day of discussing legal considerations, business formation, finding money, and perfecting the pitch, the event ended with a cocktail reception where attendees spoke with panel members and networked with other attendees.
